The department continues to monitor developments across the Middle East and works closely with our humanitarian partner agencies, such as UNHCR, and regional stakeholders.
The department is aware of the challenges for Afghans in both Pakistan and Iran. The department urges you to prioritise your safety. We will grant visas when applicants meet all requirements and in line with government priorities.
You should expect lengthy processing times.
We do not recommend visa applicants cross borders that may put them or their family at risk. You should make your own decision about travel after considering all available information.
If you live in Afghanistan, or you are deported to Afghanistan, and you have not yet completed biometrics collection, the department will not be able to process your visa while you remain in Afghanistan. The Australian Government is unable to assist your departure from Afghanistan.
If you are in Afghanistan and can travel to another country to provide biometrics, you should tell us. We will send you a letter so you can do biometrics collection in that location.
