Reconciliation Action Plan 2023-2026

The Reconciliation Action Plan aligns with our commitment to the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, particularly Priority Reform 3 – Transforming Government Organisations.

The Department’s fourth RAP and second at 'Stretch' level helps us focus on:

  • strong relationships that are built on trust and respect, and free of racism
  • cultural competence and mutual respect
  • celebrating and enabling Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and stories
  • our supply chain and business relationships.

Through this RAP we aim to build up a workplace that recognises Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories. This will lead us to more deeply value the inherent talents and strengths of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.

We aim to create opportunities that give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff the chance to move into roles where they can reach their full potential. We hope to encourage many more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to join our Department and share in our work.

We support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through conscious procurement decisions.

We will respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees through staff education and workplace behaviour standards that do not tolerate racism or discrimination, and initiatives that build cultural awareness.

This RAP is a tool for reconciliation. Use it to create a culturally safe environment that is responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
