Australian industry and countering foreign interference

The strength of Australian industry — its economic, commercial and technological innovation and success — makes it a target for foreign interference.

The Australian Government is committed to supporting industry to:

  • make informed and measured decisions on its international engagements and business endeavours
  • understand its exposure to foreign interference risks.

To build greater resilience to threats we provide industry with guidance on due diligence, risk management and protective security measures.

Identify, safeguard and adapt

Organisations can enhance their resilience to foreign interference and develop proportionate responses by adopting 3 key principles:

  1. Identify
    • Identify and manage foreign interference risks to your organisation.
  2. Safeguard
    • Protect your organisation through protective security and due diligence measures that will reduce the risk, and mitigate the impacts, of foreign interference.
  3. Adapt
    • Remedy, recover, learn from, and adapt to threats to your organisation.
