Conditions of employment

Terms and conditions of employment in the Department are provided by a Workplace Determination made by the Fair Work Commission. The Workplace Determination applies to all non-SES employees within the Department employed under the Public Service Act 1999.

The Department of Home Affairs Workplace Determination (WD) nominally expired on 8 February 2021.

On 9 February 2023, the  Department of Home Affairs Determination 2022/01 took effect. The Determination is made under section 24(1) of the Public Service Act 1999 and was signed by the Secretary on 12 December 2022.

The section 24(1) Determination:

  • maintains the terms and conditions under the current Department of Home Affairs Workplace Determination 2019
  • provides pay increase of  3% in February 2023
  • provides increases to certain allowances of  3% in line with the pay increases.
