The Australian Government Response to the Special Envoy's National Response to Islamophobia includes a package of funded measures to support Muslim communities and build social cohesion.
The measures include the following multicultural grants:
Capacity Building for Muslim Women
- Targeted grant to enhance economic participation and leadership capacity within the female Muslim community.
- Open competitive grant to enable programs that support economic participation and leadership capacity within the female Muslim community.
Capacity Building for Muslim Youth
- Open competitive grants to organisations to provide leadership and capacity to youth in Muslim communities providing evidence-based research and policy development. This will aim to better understand Muslim attitudes, measure programs and better translate policy frameworks that enhance societal outcomes.
- Targeted grant to support intensive youth engagement, culturally competent mental health and well-being services, leadership learning, and family/community outreach.
- Targeted grant for an Integrated Youth Development Program to keep youth from Muslim Communities on a pathway to positive contribution.
Leadership, Governance and Advocacy Empowerment
- Targeted and open competitive grants to enhance the governance, capacity and advocacy capabilities of Muslim organisations.
Telling Muslim Stories and fostering interfaith and intercultural engagement
- Open competitive grants to Muslim creatives to tell their stories, including through major works.
- Open competitive grants to enable Muslim organisations to deliver events that foster cross cultural interactions and to host international events that foster greater connection with Muslim countries.
- Seed funding for a research institute on Australian Muslim affairs to place further agency within the Muslim community, including research and analysis on the nature, impacts and gendered dimensions of Islamophobia. This could include a mental health hub and an annual lecture series that celebrates the contributions of Muslim Australians to Australia’s National Story.
- Targeted grant to support education and awareness of Islamic history and culture.
- Targeted grant to support sporting events focused on Muslim community engagement.
