We are committed to ensuring Australians can trust that their digital products are safe, secure and suitable. This forms part of the deliverables under the
2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy. Following international best practice is important in protecting users from cyber risks in everyday technologies and matching approaches for consistent improvements.
Applications (apps) are a type of software used daily by Australians for services and communication tools. Improving app security is an opportunity to raise the standard of cyber security for the economy, where possible. This will extend the reach of cyber security protections for users. Our continued vision to be a world-leading cyber secure nation by 2030 will also be combined with
recent efforts to improve cyber security across smart products.
To support this, the department is conducting targeted consultation on Voluntary Guidance for App Store Operators and App Developers in Australia. The department has created a possible approach to meet international best practice, including the United Kingdom’s Voluntary Code of Practice for App Store Operators and App Developers.
You can read more about our consultation for this approach in the Discussion paper – Voluntary Code of Practice for App Store Operators and App Developers.
Interested stakeholders can write submissions in the portal below. Submissions will close on 11 July 2025 at 5:00 pm.
