Amended Naval Shipbuilding Rules

Thank you for your submissions regarding the Naval Shipbuilding (NS) Rules legislative changes. The Department of Home Affairs in collaboration with the Department of Defence have considered your feedback.

The NS Rules amendments have now been formalised and are in force. The S​ecurity of Critical Infrastructure (Naval shipbuilding precinct) Amendment (LIN 24/006) Rules 2024 have been registered on Federal Register of Legislation (FRL).​

Formal Consultation for Naval Shipbuilding Rule Changes

Formal consultation commenced on Monday 6 November 2023 and ended on Monday 4 December 2023. The consultation was between the Department of Home Affairs and commercial shipbuilding enterprises based at Osborne Naval Shipyard (ONS)​. The aim of consultation was to understand any operational concerns about the amended rules.

The Minister for Home Affairs invited submissions from commercial shipbuilding enterprises based at ONS​. The following four submissions were received as part of the formal consultation process:
