The
Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018 (SOCI Act) is a principles-based framework that was introduced to strengthen the Government’s capacity to manage the national security risks of espionage, sabotage and coercion arising from foreign involvement in Australia’s critical infrastructure.
The SOCI Act applies to 11 sectors of critical infrastructure, and applies numerous positive security obligations across critical infrastructure assets.
Section 60A of the SOCI Act requires an independent review be conducted into the ‘operation’ of the Act. Dr Jill Slay AM has
been appointed as the Independent Reviewer.
Dr Slay invites you to make a submission on the following questions:
Is the SOCI Act:
- achieving its intended objectives;
- functioning as intended;
- having any unintended consequences;
- are there new or emergent threats the SOCI Act is unable to manage in its current form
Providing a submission
The submission form is open until 5pm AEDT 22 December 2025.
Please structure your submission around the four questions below.
In the submission, please provide the following:
- Your name
- Your organisation
- A 200-word summary of the full submission
- Your submission in response to the four questions as outlined above
