Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse
Between 2013 and 2017, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse heard the stories of thousands of people who had experienced sexual abuse as children in institutional settings from schools to sporting groups, all over Australia.
Australian Government response
On 13 June 2018, the Australian Government released its response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
It acknowledges the courage of the survivors and victims of institutional child sexual abuse, their families and supporters. The work of the Royal Commission helps to create changes that will protect children from abuse in all institutions, now and in the future.
Of the 409 recommendations, 122 were directed to the Australian Government. The Australian Government has accepted in principle 104 of these. The Home Affairs Portfolio is the lead agency for implementing 69 recommendations. Progress reports can be found on the

The Australian Government released its whole of government policy, the
Commonwealth Child Safeguarding Framework, which sets minimum standards for creating and embedding a child safe culture and practice in Commonwealth entities. For more information, visit National Office for Child Safety.
