The Cyber Incident Review Board (the Board) is an independent statutory advisory body established under the Cyber Security Act 2024 (the Act). The Board has a remit to conduct no-fault, post-incident reviews of significant cyber security incidents in Australia. The Board provides recommendations to government and industry to prevent, respond to or minimise the impact of similar incidents in the future.
Recent high-profile and high-impact cyber security incidents highlight that industry and government need to do more to effectively investigate and learn lessons from cyber security incidents. When a major incident occurs, it is important that we understand the vulnerabilities that led to the attack. We can then share lessons learned with industry to enhance future cyber readiness.
The Board will uplift Australia’s collective cyber security by boosting our ability to enhance incident preparation and response.
The Board will be comprised of a Chair and up to six Standing Members.
The Board operates within the Department of Home Affairs portfolio and is responsible to the Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security. Staff from the Department of Home Affairs will assist with the functions of the Board and administrative duties as the secretariat.
