Australia operates a dedicated Humanitarian Program that offers:
- resettlement for refugees and others overseas who are in humanitarian need
- protection for people who arrive lawfully in Australia and engage Australia's protection obligations.
Each year, the Australian Government seeks the views of the Australian public on the Humanitarian Program. You can find information about the Humanitarian Program and its features in the
Humanitarian Program 2026-27 Discussion Paper.
The department received over 70 written submissions in response to the discussion paper. You can find a summary of responses to the questions in the discussion paper and information we received during the consultation process in the Summary of the
2026-27 Humanitarian Program Consultation.
