In 2023, the department commissioned Deloitte to investigate the prevalence of sub-optimal interpreting services in select settings and undertake targeted analysis into the economic and social costs associated with sub-optimal interpreting services.
In 2024, building on this work, the department commissioned Deloitte to extend the analysis to include the flow-on costs associated with sub-optimal interpreting services in the health setting, and consider the wages and employment conditions for interpreters and translators, as well as the potential risks and costs of inaction.
