​The Department of Home Affairs ‘Mandatory participation in CVE intervention – independent review’, authored by Adrian Cherney, Kathleen De Rooy, Elizabeth Eggins and Lorraine Mazerolle (School of Social Science, University of Queensland) was tabled in the House of Representatives (May 2023) and the Senate (June 2023).

The report was commissioned in November 2020 to review the evidence relating to mandatory participation in programs to counter violent extremism and consider its potential benefits and limitations. The report reviewed CVE initiatives, reviewed evidence relating to mandatory participation in interventions to CVE, considered the benefits and limitations of mandating participation, and explored relevant implementation issues. The report completed a rapid evidence review of academic literature, relevant policy and legislative sources and consultations with international experts.
