Expired ASICs or MSICs
You must return your red or grey ASIC or blue MSIC to the issuing body within one month (30 days) after the expiry of the card.
Lost, stolen or destroyed ASICs or MSICs
As a red or grey ASIC or a blue MSIC holder, you must notify your issuing body within seven days of becoming aware of the loss, theft or destruction of your card.
You must return your card within
(30 days) after the card has been damaged, altered or defaced.
Suspended ASICs or MSICs
If your red or grey ASIC or blue MSIC is suspended, you must return your card to the issuing body no later than seven days after you become aware of the suspension.
No operational need
If you no longer have an operational need for a red or grey ASIC or a blue MSIC, you must return your card within one month (30 days).
Change of name
If you have changed your name, you must notify your issuing body within
30 days after the change.
Failure to notify your issuing body or return you card in time may incur a penalty of up to $1,800.
You must properly display a valid ASIC or MSIC while in secure-sensitive areas.
Note: White ASICs or white MSICs are
not required to be displayed.
You are properly displaying your valid red ASIC, grey ASIC, VIC or TAC if the card is:
- attached to your outer clothing
- above waist height, and
- at the front or side of your body.
The whole front of the ASIC, VIC or TAC must be clearly visible.
Failure to properly display a valid ASIC (excluding white ASIC) in a secure area is an offence of strict liability and may incur a penalty of up to $900.
You are properly displaying your valid blue MSIC if:
- the whole of the front of the MSIC is clearly visible at all times that it is being worn, and
- the MSIC is attached, at or above the waist, to the front or side of your clothing or on a band around your upper arm.
Failure to properly display a valid MSIC (excluding white MSIC) in a security zone is an offence of strict liability and may incur a penalty of up to $3,600.
The Secretary of the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development may exempt a person from displaying an ASIC or an MSIC.

What if I am convicted of an offence?
If you are convicted of and sentenced for a
security-relevant offence, you must notify your issuing body or
AusCheck, in writing, within seven days.
Review and appeal mechanisms are in place for those with convictions of criminal and aviation or maritime-security-relevant offences.
