The Australian Embassy in Laos has no visa function. Our office in Bangkok manages visa and citizenship services for clients in Laos and Thailand.

This office provides immigration and visa services for clients in Thailand and Laos. The office of the Australian Embassy does not accept visa applications. To lodge an application you will need to visit the Australian Visa Application Centre.

You can apply online for most Australian visas and citizenship through ImmiAccount. This is the preferred and most efficient way to apply.

Cashier's cheques

You can purchase cashier's cheques in Bangkok or the Nonthaburi, Pathumtani and Samuthprakarn provinces.

Bank draft

Bank draft is available for all other provinces in Thailand. You will need to make it payable to 'The Australian Embassy, Bangkok'​.

Credit Card​

Payments using credit card will be processed in Australian dollars (AUD). We accept MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, Diners and JCB. When paying by a credit card you may incur a credit card surcharge, banking and currency conversion fees and you will need to accept the risk associated with any currency fluctuations.​​​​​

Prior to lodging your application, you may need to notify your bank of an upcoming foreign credit card transaction. Failure to do so may result in your transaction being declined. Without payment your application is invalid.

Credit card transactions processed in Australian dollars (AUD) are processed in Australia.​​​​​ A credit card surcharge may apply to transactions made using your credit card.

​Making payment in Australia

Fees may be paid​ at any of our offi​ces in Australia. Once the fee has been paid, you will need to provide a copy of the receipt with your application.​​​


Citizenship by descent, citizenship by conferral and applications for evidence of citizenship can be lodged online through ImmiAccount.

Applications to resume or renounce (give up) Australian citizenship should be sent to the Australian address on the form.

Applications for citizenship by descent are processed at this office.

Visa labels​​​​​​​​​​

You need to have a valid visa to travel to Australia. We do not need you to have a visa label placed into your passport for travel to Australia. This is known as 'label-free' travel, making travel to Australia simpler and more secure.

Citizens (resident and non-resident): Apply in person or family or friends can apply on your behalf.
Obtain an application form from the address above.
Take the completed form to the Village Office with two passport sized photographs. Also take the Lao Family Book and ask the village chief to sign and stamp the form.
Lodge the completed form at the address above.
Non-citizens (resident in Laos): The Village Office needs to be aware of your residence. If you have not already informed the village chief, you may be required to have your address certified. Without the Village Office being aware of your presence (current or past) in their village, the police certificate cannot be issued.
You need to take your Lao ID card and passport and ask the village chief to sign and stamp the form. Lodge the completed form at the address above..
Non-citizens no longer living in Laos: You will need to contact your nearest Lao embassy or consulate.
Processing time: the certificate is usually issued within a week.
