There is no Australian diplomatic mission in El Salvador.  The Department's office in Ottawa, Canada, manages visa and citizenship services for clients in El Salvador.

Credit card is the preferred payment option.

Credit Card​

Payments using credit card will be processed in Australian dollars (AUD). We accept MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, Diners and JCB. When paying by a credit card you may incur a credit card surcharge, banking and currency conversion fees and you will need to accept the risk associated with any currency fluctuations.​​​​​

Prior to lodging your application, you may need to notify your bank of an upcoming foreign credit card transaction. Failure to do so may result in your transaction being declined. Without payment your application is invalid.

Credit card transactions processed in Australian dollars (AUD) are processed in Australia.​​​​​ A credit card surcharge may apply to transactions made using your credit card.

Money order or International bank draft

If you are paying by money order or international bank draft, you must make it payable to 'Australian High Commission' and payment must be in Canadian dollars.

​Making payment in Australia

Fees may be paid​ at any of our offi​ces in Australia. Once the fee has been paid, you will need to provide a copy of the receipt with your application.​​​



Applications for Citizenship by Descent can be lodged at this office.​​​​


​Applications for Australian citizenship general eligibility and other situations, and applications to resume or renounce (give up) Australian citizenship should be lodged at the Canberra Visa and Citizenship office in Australian Capital Territory​.

Citizens and residents of El Salvador

If you live in El Salvador:
Solvencia de Policia
You should apply for a Solvencia de la Policía Nacional in person through the Dirección General de la Policía Nacional Civil.
Residents provide: Original and copy of valid identity card (DUI) or original and copy of a valid passport. The copy of the DUI must be enlarged to 150 per cent. Application Form obtained at the police office. Fingerprints and a photograph are taken at time of application.
Processing time:
For citizens: 1 hour
For non-citizens in El Salvador: 10 days
Certificado de Antecedentes Penales
You should apply for Certificado de Antecedentes Penales in person or through an authorised third party at the Dirección General de Centros Penales y de Readaptación in San Salvador.
Residents provide: Original DUI or passport and fee ($3)
Processing time: 1 hour

If you live outside of El Salvador (citizens and non-citizens)
You should apply for a Solvencia de la Policía Nacional in person at your nearest Consulate of El Salvador.
Provide: Two full face and two side profile colour photographs, original set of fingerprints, copy of valid identity card (DUI) or passport, application form, and a letter from the applicant addressed to Unidad de Registro y Antecedentes Policiales de la Policia Nacional Civil indicating the reason for the request.
Please note: The process to obtain the solvency can take two to three months, as the Consulate sends the request to Foreign Affairs of El Salvador's by diplomatic bag and they will forward it to the Police Station, where the background is consulted and when the solvency is processed will be returned to using the same procedure.
You should apply for Certificado de Antecedentes Penales in person at your nearest Consulate of El Salvador.
Provide: Application form, copy of valid passport or DUI and fee ($3.00).
