There is no Australian diplomatic mission in the Cook Islands.  The Department's office in Auckland, New Zealand, manages visa and citizenship services for clients in the Cook Islands.

Payment information

Visa applications may be lodged at the Australian Visa Application Centre in Auckland. Methods of payment accepted at are available on the Australian Visa Application Centres website.

If you do not choose to use the Australian Visa Application Centre our preferred method of payment is bank cheque.

Bank cheques

Bank cheques must be in New Zealand dollars (NZD)and payable to the “Australian Trade Commission”​

​Personal cheques are not accepted.


EFTPOS in New Zealand dollars (NZD) is accepted.

Do I need a visa?

New Zealand citizens travelling on New Zealand passports do not need a visa to enter Australian unless there are health or character concerns.

If you are a New Zealand citizen with criminal convictions, no matter how long ago your convictions were, or whether they have been removed from government records, you should obtain written confirmation from us before you travel to Australia.


Applications for citizenship by descent can be lodged at either the Australian Visa Application Centres  or our office.

​Applications for Australian citizenship general eligibility and other situations, and applications to resume or renounce (give up) Australian citizenship should be lodged at the Canberra Visa and Citizenship office in Australian Capital Territory​.
