Service locations

​The Australian Consulate in Sofia has no visa function. Our office in Belgrade, Serbia, manages visa and citizenship services for clients in Bulgaria.  

Note: Bulgarian nationals can apply online for most Australian visas and citizenship through ImmiAccount. This is the preferred and most efficient way to apply. Any paper applications (where applicable) should be sent to the Australian Embassy, Belgrade.

This office provides immigration and visa services to clients in Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia (Former Yugoslav Republic of), Montenegro, Romania and Slovenia.

Payment​ information

Online payment is the preferred payment method. If you are lodging an online application, payment is made when you submit the application.

If you are lodging a paper application, you can login to ImmiAccount, select My Payments from the Manage Payments section, then select Pre-Pay Paper Service. After you have made your payment, record the receipt number on your application and include a copy of your receipt.

Citizenship by descent, citizenship by conferral and applications for evidence of citizenship can be lodged online through ImmiAccount.

Applications for citizenship by descent are processed at the Australian High Commission London.​​

​Applications to resume or renounce (give up) Australian citizenship should be sent to the Australian address on the form.​​​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​

Relevant document: ‘Conviction Status Certificate’ (Svidetelstvo za Sudimost).
Resident citizens: Apply in person at the Regional Court where you are registered (under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice).
Non-resident citizens: Apply at the Bulgarian embassy or consulate in your country of residence. You may also authorise a representative in Bulgaria, with a power of attorney or a certificate of inheritor, to apply for and receive the certificate on your behalf.
Provide: an application form (available at http://www.justice.government.bg), identity document, birth certificate, power of attorney and/or certificate of inheritors when a certificate is requested on your behalf, and legal proof of name change, if applicable.
Fee: BGL10.00 (Bulgarian Leva), deposited in DSK Bank EAD, Sofia, to the Ministry of Justice’s account:
