The Australian Government is providing $25 million to invest in security at Muslim faith-based places. This includes mosques, schools, centres and other community facilities that the Muslim community in Australia attend and use.
The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) is administering this funding to support a diverse range of Muslim faith-based organisations. ANIC will run a grant round for Muslim faith-based organisations to apply for funding to enhance their security resources.
Activities and items that will be eligible for funding will be available in the grant guidelines when the round opens in 2026. They are likely to include:
- risk and threat assessments
- critical incident planning
- minor security infrastructure works, including the installation or upgrade of security camera systems, access controls, security lighting, fences and gates, detection and alarm systems
- security monitoring
- security guidance and training
- crisis management support and coordination
- security guard services.
Expressions of Interest are now open until 24 April 2026. Organisations must submit an expression of interest in order to be considered for funding. A grant application process will be held in mid-2026.
