Note: Visa and citizenship applications from Mauritius and bordering countries (Comoros (Union of), Madagascar, Reunion Islands and Seychelles) can be lodged at the Australian High Commission in Port Louis, Mauritius or direct with Pretoria.
Lodging a visa application
At an Australian Visa Application Centre in South Africa
We have an agreement with
TLScontact to provide Australian visa lodgement services and biometric collection services through four Australian Visa Application Centres (AVAC) in South Africa. You can lodge your application in person and enrol your biometrics at any of the AVACs in South Africa.
If you reside in any of the countries listed above (except Nigeria and Zimbabwe), you can courier your application to the AVAC in Johannesburg.
Exception: Applications for Refugee and Humanitarian visas.
At an Australian Visa Application Centre in Nigeria or Zimbabwe
Clients in Nigeria can lodge visa applications at an AVAC in Abuja or Lagos. Clients in Zimbabwe can lodge visa applications at the AVAC in Harare. Clients lodging visa applications in Nigeria or Zimbabwe might need to provide biometrics.
Note: TLScontact will charge an administration fee for visa application lodgement and biometric enrolment. This fee is in addition to the visa application charge.
By post or courier to the Australian High Commission Pretoria, South Africa
Ensure you have enclosed the appropriate visa application charges. Sponsors can also pay at any department office in Australia and you can include the official receipt with your application.
Note: Clients in South Africa, Zimbabwe or Nigeria, who lodge an application directly with the Australian High Commission Pretoria, might still need to go to their nearest AVAC to provide biometrics.
At the Australian High Commission Pretoria, South Africa in person
If you wish to lodge an application in person at the Australian High Commission you must make an appointment. Appointments are arranged either through the South African AVACs or directly with the
Australian High Commission.
Note: Due to the high demand for appointments it might be a few weeks before an appointment can be scheduled at the Australian High Commission, however, you can obtain an appointment to lodge your application and provide biometrics at an AVAC within a few days.
Permanent entry visas
Partner, prospective marriage and child visa applications from applicants usually living in one of the countries in country coverage list above are processed in Pretoria.
Applications for general skilled, business innovation and investment, Distinguished Talent (subclass 124), Former Resident (subclass 151) and parent subclasses are lodged and processed in Australia.
Refugee and Humanitarian visas
Clients from Africa whose
application for a Refugee and Humanitarian (Class XB) visa is accompanied by a proposal form (form 681) must lodge their application at the department's New South Wales Special Humanitarian Processing Centre.
This applies to people who are lodging a visa for consideration under the Global Special Humanitarian Program (SHP) or as an immediate family member.

Unless indicated below, temporary entry visa applications from countries in the country coverage list above are processed in Pretoria.
Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visa (subclass 400) - Visa applicants will need to lodge an online application
Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403) - Sponsorship (if required) and visa applicants can lodge an online application.
Training visa (subclass 407) - Sponsorship, nomination and visa applications will need to lodge an online application.
Temporary Work Activity visa (subclass 408) - Sponsorship and visa applications will need to lodge an online application.
Paper applications for the Sponsored Family stream of the Visitor (subclass 600) visa must be lodged in Australia. These applications will be processed at one of the Sponsored Family Visitor processing centres below.

Temporary Work (Skilled) (subclass 457) sponsorship, nomination and visa applications must be lodged online. These applications will be processed at one of the Centres of Excellence in Australia.
If you are sponsored by an Australian employer, you must lodge your visa application at the same office in Australia where your employer lodged papers to support your application. Please ask your employer where they lodged these papers.
Applications for Citizenship by Descent can be lodged at the Australian High Commission, South Africa or at the Australian Visa Application Centre.
Applications for Australian citizenship general eligibility and other situations, and applications to resume or renounce (give up) Australian citizenship should be lodged at the
Canberra office in Australian Capital Territory.
