Brazil - Visa information and lodgement

This visa office provides immigration and visa services to clients in Brazil and three other countries including: Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Note: Temporary and some permanent visa applications for Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay are lodged and processed at the Australian Embassy, Argentina.

Permanent entry visas

Partner, prospective marriage and child visa applications from applicants usually living in Brazil are lodged and processed in Brasilia.

Applications for general skilled, business innovation and investment, Distinguished Talent (subclass 124), Former Resident (subclass 151) and parent subclasses are lodged and processed in Australia.

Refugee and Humanitarian visas

Clients from the Americas region whose application for a Refugee and Humanitarian (Class XB) visa is accompanied by a Form 681—Refugee and Special Humanitarian Proposal (proposal form) must lodge their application at the Department’s NSW Offshore Humanitarian Processing Centre.

This applies to people who are lodging a visa for consideration under the Global Special Humanitarian Program (SHP) or as an immediate family member.

All other Refugee and Humanitarian applications should be directed to the Australian Embassy in Washington.

Temporary entry visas

Passport holders from Brazil who want to visit Australia as a tourist or business visitor are eligible to apply online for a visitor visa .

Unless indicated below temporary entry visa applications from Brazilian applicants are lodged and processed in Brasilia.

Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visa (subclass 400) - Visa applicants will need to lodge an online application

Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403) - Sponsorship (if required) and visa applicants can lodge an online application.

Training visa (subclass 407) - Sponsorship, nomination and visa applications will need to lodge an online application.

Temporary Work Activity visa (subclass 408) - Sponsorship and visa applications will need to lodge an online application.

Paper applications for the Sponsored Family stream of the Visitor (subclass 600) visa must be lodged in Australia. These applications will be processed at one of the Sponsored Family Visitor processing centres below.

Temporary Work (Skilled) (subclass 457)​ sponsorship, nomination and visa applications must be lodged online. These applications will be processed at one of the Centres of Excellence in Australia.

If you are sponsored by an Australian employer, you must lodge your visa application at the same office in Australia where your employer lodged papers to support your application. Please ask your employer where they lodged these papers.​​​​​

Citizenship applications

Applications for Citizenship by Descent can be lodged online, or paper applications can be lodged at the Australian Embassy, Brazil.

Applications for Australian citizenship by general eligibility and other situations, and applications to resume or renounce (give up) Australian citizenship should be lodged at the Canberra office in Australian Capital Territory.

Special procedures

While permanent entry visa applications may be lodged at any office, it is recommended that they be lodged direct with Brasilia, as forwarding documents from other offices can take up to a month. However, fees/charges can be paid at any office, and the receipt should then be sent by the applicant with the application direct to Brasilia.​
